Sophie is a Brighton based mess-maker. She uses acrylic, Indian ink, textiles, and forgotten meaningless rubbish to create textured, abstract mixed media images. Inspired by dilapidated and abandoned buildings, and deteriorated, mistreated surfaces.
After spending a lot of time going through various art institutions, Sophie discovered she was learning a lot more through self-discovery. Having worked experimentally with collage, monoprinting, textiles, typography and digital, her moments of artistic clarity have grown.
Sophie has previously worked on conceptual projects including a book that presented pieces of destroyed everyday objects and other disregarded things. She attempts to present the delicacy of deterioration and neglect in her artwork by highlighting insignificance, imitating chaos and making a mess.
