Ok, so I have started this essentially because I want to pick Paul's brain:

I am thinking of starting (another) blog. I want to host it a one page of my own website, so I have to be able to format it so that it suits the site as a whole, but obviously I want it to automate the normal blogging functions.

afaik the nest way to do this is to use wordpress. right? or wrong?

and how easy is it to get things to match your own html layouts on other pages?

Yes, you're absolutely right - WordPress is the best solution (IMO).  I use WordPress on this website for both my blog and Germseed's galleries. 

Modifying WordPress themes is relatively simple (if you've got a good grasp of CSS) - I would advise starting with a standard WP theme and just modifying the CSS.  You may also need to do some basic HTML/PHP modifications to some of the template files, bu again it's relatively simple stuff.

I should have seen that one coming.

CSS is the massive white elephant shaped hole in my web knowledge. It's the thing that would make my webbased life so much easier if I had ever bothered to learn.
