Study of a Figure in the Court of Queen Mab (1)
Image Description
This pastel drawing on black paper depicts a female-presenting figure seated on a chair draped with purple fabric. On their head are a small pair of horns, and around their neck is a ruff and a long beaded necklace.
They have their right hand propped on their right knee, and are resting their face on the right palm.
Behind the purple fabric is a much larger piece of bright red fabric, going down to their feet where there is a large brass plate.
At the bottom of the drawing is gold text quoting these lines from Percy Shelley’s Queen Mab:
Nature! -no!
Kings, priests and statesmen blast the human flower
Even in its tender bud; their influence darts
Like subtle poison through the bloodless veins
Of desolate society.
