Spirit of Albion, Memory of the Land (England’s Dark Dreaming № 20)

This is the twentieth large-scale charcoal drawing in my England’s Dark Dreaming series.
In the months before this drawing was planned a DNA analysis of a Mesolithic human male fossil in Somerset nicknamed ‘Cheddar Man’ found that the man had “dark or dark to black skin, blue/green eyes and dark brown possibly black hair”. As such, it made perfect sense to me to have the spirit of England be a reflection of those earliest continual inhabitants.
