Untitled, with Shears 02 - 2012

Untitled, with Shears 02 - 2012 follows Untitled, Standing - 2012 in being based on depictions of mythological female characters in Pre-Raphaelite art, but then adds a subtle note of surrealism with the inclusion of a bizarre pair of deer-foot shears from a local flea market.

The concept for these photographs came from an email discussion between Paul Watson and Alice Kemp about plans for a new collaborative series of photographs to start off 2012.

“I keep having recurring notions of a re-creating Pre-Raphaelite classics.” Ms Kemp wrote to Paul Watson in November 2011. Needless to say, as the discussion continued the concept morphed from straight re-creations to “in the style of…” with a healthy dose of “weird” thrown in for good measure.
