Horror Advent Calendar & Mycelium Parish News

A spread of the constituent parts of the calendar: a covering note, a bundle of unopened stories tied with ribbon, and three open stories

The Horror Advent Calendar, 3 days in

I was fortunate enough to receive one of James Burt’s Horror Advent Calendars which he writes about here.

Each calendar is a collection of twenty-four short (and by short I mean microfiction) horror stories, sealed and numbered.

In the letter included with the calendar James writes:

This is a collection of short horror stories in the form of an advent calendar, one for every day up to Christmas Eve.

Most of these stories are light, but a few are horrifying or depressing - those have been marked with a warning ‘tree’. If you imagine that you might be the sort of person who will phone me up to say “James, what the fuck were you thinking, sharing Christmas stories like that?”, then you should probably skip those ones.

I’ve not encountered any of the horrifying ones yet, but they’ve been great so far!

Also forthcoming from James and Dan Sumption is the 2024 edition of Mycelium Parish News, covering weird, strange and wonderful events and creative projects from 2024 (I have contributed a piece) which should hopefully be announced on James’ blog soon.
